Even the FAT GUY is employed????

With unemployment rising as it is, its scary to think that Santa Claus who works one night a year is still considered officially employed. This cartoon really shows the reform our employment needs, hopefully something will be done, OBAMA!

Why Rising Interest Rates May Be a Good Sign

http://www.time.com/time/business/article/0,8599,1903660,00.html

Could rising iterest rates be a good thing for our economy? NO, Says top Wall Street strategist Edward Yardeni, "If bond yields get up to 4.5%, so not much higher than they are now, I think we would see a real decline in mortgage refinancing, which would threaten the viability of the economic recovery."

Even so others say YES, a rising interest rate is nothing to be afraid of, especially in recession, in actuality rising rates are usually a good sign says economics. Rising rates would almost push consumers to buy. Everything that is happening today happened yesterday.
Interest rates always rise when things are improving," says Lakshman Achuthan, managing director at the Economic Cycle Research Institute. "If higher interest rates choked off recoveries, then we would always be in recession.

Healthcare Reform Good for Economy

http://useconomy.about.com/b/2009/09/21/healthcare-reform-good-for-economy.htm

Let's face it, without health care reform medicare will rise, if left unchecked medicare might double by 2040. Not to fret, Obama has a plan for all of us, reducing expenses by 1.5% per year by negotiating lower prices and reducing other inefficiencies... might also create 500,000 jobs, lowering our staggering unemployment rate by .25% per year!!!

Personal Note- Well I know for a fact that there is no such thing as a "free lunch." So the idea of free health care doesn't sound realistic to me, I personally think if Health Care became a free market it would benefit much more.

Would The Legalization Of Marijuana Stimulate The Economy?

http://ewot.typepad.com/the_economic_way_of_think/2009/10/marijuana-and-the-present-crisis.html

"marijuana legalization -- replacing prohibition with a system of taxation and regulation -- would save $7.7 billion per year in state and federal expenditures on prohibition enforcement and produce tax revenues of at least $2.4 billion annually if marijuana were taxed like most consumer goods. If, however, marijuana were taxed similarly to alcohol or tobacco, it might generate as much as $6.2 billion annually. "

Whether you support marijuana or not, you cannot deny the fact that it would help our economy. Prohibition doesn't help with its hefty cost, Legalization would not only raise GDP by 50 billion, but also increase the Unemployment rate, if it was given an elastic demand. However if not the unemployment rate would in fact rise with loss of drug enforcement officers, this would be temporary but still in effect. Tax Revenue fro Legalization would be up to 6 billion anually, of coarse to a twevle trillion dollar gdp this is insignificant.

Immigration Study: Legalization Grows GDP by $1.5T; Deportation Costs U.S. $2.6T

Basicall, according to the Center, Comprehensive immigration reform would be the best option to raise GDP, two times the guest-worker program alone. Mass deportation actually reduces GDP! Exconomics have been saying all of this for quite sometime now, hopefully soon someone will listen.
